Sofie lives and breathes fiction writing, divination (you can order a custom Tarot reading here), and the study of traditional Renaissance astrology as practiced in Europe between ca. 1200-1700.

Since 2010 Sofie practices Vipassana meditation as taught by Satya Narayan Goenka (1924-2013), in the tradition of Sayagyi U Ba Khin (1899-1971). She learned the technique of Vipassana first at Dhamma Sota meditation center near Delhi, India, and in 2013 she traveled to northern India to deepen her meditation studies at Dhamma Sikhara in the Himalayan cedar forests.

Also in 2013, she spent time in spiritual retreat at the Tibetan Buddhist Thosamling Nunnery in Sidhpur, India. One afternoon, just as the sun was setting over the rice paddies, a friend introduced her to the transformational powers of Taiji Quan and Qigong. This lead to a deep interest in physical modes of spiritual practice and how the mind-body continuum influences well-being.

Sofie’s journey has taught her that stress can be managed through various esoteric practices. While a short burst of stress, when appropriate, is a natural and healthy part of life, too much stress over a long period of time can rob us of our vitality and inner joy. Sofie’s interest in holistic health began over 20 years ago, with the study of medicinal herbs, essential oils and aromatherapy.

“Every herb has been created for some purpose; nothing in nature is without meaning.” —  Avicenna (Ibn Sina, 980–1037) – The Canon of Medicine

Sofie holds a B.A. in International Relations and an M.A. in Conflict Research, Management and Resolution. She is also certified in professional mediation. Current academic interests revolve around the languages of antiquity, especially Ancient Greek and Arabic.
